Nu Lambda Mu

This international honor society was established by the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council to recognize students dedicated to the study of nonprofit management, philanthropy, and social entrepreneurship/enterprise. Its mission is to advance the study of nonprofit organizations and their function in society and to promote scholarly achievement among those who engage in these academic pursuits.

How to Apply

  • Complete the application form

  • Submit the non-refundable $50 application fee (unless your program submits payment on your behalf or you request a scholarship)

  • Have Your Advisor (or similar) Confirm Your GPA and Graduation Date

Eligibility

Graduate Students
In order to become a member of the Nu Lambda Mu international honor society at the graduate level, the student must meet each of the criteria below:

  • Be a current graduate student or possess a graduate degree or graduate certificate from a NACC-affiliated program.

  • Be pursuing (or have earned) a master’s degree, PhD, concentration, and/or graduate certificate in nonprofit, philanthropy, and/or social entrepreneurship related studies.

  • Be graduating this fall/winter 2024 (or have already graduated).

  • Hold a minimum cumulative 3.70 GPA or equivalent (eg: 10.0 if on a 12 point scale, etc.)

  • Pay the one-time, nonrefundable application fee of $50

Undergraduate Students
In order to become a member of the Nu Lambda Mu international honor society at the undergraduate level, the student must meet each of the criteria below:

  • Be a current undergraduate student or possess an undergraduate degree or certificate from a NACC-affiliated program.

  • Be pursuing (or have earned) a major or minor in nonprofit, philanthropic, and/or social entrepreneurship related studies.

  • Be graduating this fall/winter 2024 (or have already graduated).

  • Hold a minimum cumulative 3.50 GPA or equivalent (eg: 9.4 if on a 12 point scale).

  • Pay the one-time, nonrefundable application fee of $50

Benefits of Membership

Nu Lambda Mu inductees receive honor cords for graduation and a Nu Lambda Mu certificate. In addition to these special recognition items, Nu Lambda Mu members are offered the following benefits:

  • Opportunity to share your stories and updates with us in the “Nu Lambda Mu Spotlight” section of NACC News
  • A free online subscription to NACC News
  • Invitation to attend NACC conferences and special events
  • Invitation to join our Nu Lambda Mu members-only Linked In group
  • Updates on Job Opportunities in the nonprofit sector
  • Stay tuned—more opportunities to come!

Eligibility for membership in Nu Lambda Mu is determined by the local NACC representative. If an inductee is determined by the local representative to no longer meet the stated eligibility requirements, NACC reserves the right to remove them from the official Nu Lambda Mu membership record.
